HESPERIA ZOO FOUNDATION
On August 28th, the Phoenix Foundation held its first Donor/Family Picnic at Hesperia Lake Park. The picnic brought together families who have been helped by the Phoenix Foundation and the donors who supported them. All of these families have experienced the loss of a loved one through an accident or crime. Several children attended the picnic and enjoyed face painting, games, and lunch. A special treat was possible due to the Hesperia Zoo Foundation, an Affiliate Fund of the High Desert Community Foundation. Animal handler Chelsey brought six animals and provided an hands on, up close and personal experience with the children. The kids had a great time and so did the adults.
This was a great example of non-profits working together to provide a service to the community.

STUDENT MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Parade of Pianos
On the weekend of August 13-14. 2011, the Student Music Scholarship Fund, an Affiliate Fund of the High Desert Community Foundation, hosted a musical recital featuring students and renown concert pianist Tony James. The event was held at the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce before a delighted audience.
