Animal Welfare Advocacy & Kind (Humane) Education Network (AWAKHEN!)

Animal Welfare Advocacy & Kind (Humane) Education Network (AWAKHEN!)

The purpose of AWAKHEN! is to serve as an advocate for animal welfare, to raise awareness of the plight of animals, and to facilitate participation in our community through compassion, cooperation, and communication.

Some of the programs in process include:

1. Mediation between private citizens and local officials.

2. Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) of colony cats.

3. Humane education in the schools.

4. Adoption program for domestic cats.

5. Plans to work with homeless shelter to allow people to bring pets.

6. Low cost spay/neuter program.

7. Creation of a network to encourage all rescue groups in the High Desert to work together to maximize benefits to animals.

The fund adviser for AWAKHEN is Beth Brussell-Horton.  You can contact Beth at awakhen.animalwelfarenetwork@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer, make a donation, or learn more about AWAKHEN.

Beth is desperately in need of placing rescued cats, both feral and domesticated, into permanent homes. The feral cats are great mousers that just need food, water, shelter, and someone to care for them the rest of their lives.  They are fixed and their ear tipped, indicating they are fixed.  She is also looking for an additional space at a building, temporary home, or any other protective shelter during these upcoming months.
